There are rather strict regulations for the labelling of honeys sold in the UK. Many of these rules are laid down in the Honey (England) Regulations 2015. This legislation is however mostly concerned with the correct description of different types of honey and declaration of their place of origin.

The UK governments’ website on food standards: labelling and composition offers a section that is purely concerned with honey labels. It also specifies what information needs to be put on the label if your honey was produced in more than one country – also if one or more of those countries are EU member states.

Do you need a honey label with a guarantee seal? Labels with a guarantee seal – often also called a closure or seal label – are a guarantee for high quality and freshness of the product.

A word of advice: Make sure that the bar connecting the main label to the one on the lid is not too narrow. Otherwise you might have problems with machine labelling or the bar could accidentally tear.

label.co.uk offer two types of labels with removable adhesives. One is an adhesive that allows for labels to be removed residue-free with the help of an alkali solution. The other is equipped with an easily peelable adhesive. Thanks to the properties of this adhesive these labels can be removed smoothly and even repositioned if need be.

With these types of labels recycling honey jars becomes much less complicated. You can simply remove the honey label from the jar and either use the jar again or recycle it appropriately.
